Dayne Sislen creates smooth, graceful, sculptural hand crafted art jewelry of 14K and 18K gold and sterling silver with her hammer. Her sculptural creations are inspired by strong feminine forms in nature. All designs are one-of-a-kind or very limited editions.

Goldsmithing Techniques Used:

Anticlastic Forming: A method of forming metal that is completely done by hand. It stretches the edges of a flat sheet of metal while at the same time compressing the center so the piece curves in two directions away from each other. This stretching and compressing is accomplished using a nylon hammer to form the sheets over custom made steel stakes and anvils. This goldsmithing technique forms very strong but surprisingly light weight pieces.

Forging: Is a method of hammering a thicker bar of metal with a cross pein or ball pein hammer lengthwise to the width of the bar to spread and thin the metal to widen and curve it. Very graceful, but strong shapes can be achieved using this technique.

Pattern making: A very big part of forming a sculptural piece of jewelry is designing the pattern. This lengthy process of trial and error involves making many sample pieces in less precious metals to prefect each pattern before committing to gold or silver.
